VAMPIRE LIFEGUARD REVEALED

Posted on September 16, 2012

Here's the new cover to Norton the Vampire. In the next post, I will have Keith Robinson share how he designed this lovely cover and built up the colors so well.

Also, see below to catch a glimpse at a rare find: it's the original cover to the print version of Norton the Vampire from a few years back. Boy, I can see a world of difference in my art choices from then to now. The old cover was overworked in Publisher and my art style looks so frail and timid.

The book itself was limited to a 200 print run. There were over 50 illustrations in this version and it is very hard to come by. I am still proud of it, but I'm even more excited about this new version. I am going through the script right now, finding wonderful bits and making changes that my younger self missed. Readers of Graham the Gargoyle will love all the Easter Eggs contained in this book. It really is a companion book to Graham as Norton's adventure unfolds and overlaps with Graham's.

I have to admit that Keith's wonderful design and layout on the new cover blows my shaky and amatuer earlier work out of the water. Thanks so much for making me look good, Keith.

The design is actually yours, Brian — I just color your excellent line drawings. But yes, I have to say it's a lot of fun coloring like this. With each cover I think we're getting better and better. Maybe you and I should start a cover design business!
