MY NEXT GREAT BOOK WILL BE SCIENCE FICTION: ENTER THE GOD WHEEL

Posted on November 23, 2018

With Irving 4 almost 4/5's complete and the end pages likely being written this week and next, my overactive brain turned to what next. I'm going to write for actual grown-up this time out.

The God Wheel will be a science fiction novel for readers who appreciate the humor of Douglas Adams. I'll begin work on it during my February track-out and will likely have it ready for publication by May or June 2019. I sat down and hammered out the basic gist of the book.

Here it is:

The God Wheel

Felix Martin's life is on an upswing. He almost doesn't know what to make of his new girlfriend, who is pretty, smart, and actually enjoys spending time with him, the $10,000 windfall from a lottery scratcher he picked up in a parking lot, and even his hard-to-relate-to dad opening up and demonstrating legitimate concern and proper parenting.

But Felix knows from experience the wins won't keep piling on.

Life gets more complicated when he is granted awareness of his god wheel and the pantheon of odd deities 'managing' his life.

The god wheel is a giant spinner loaded down with a pantheon of personalized gods and goddesses. Every sentient life form has one, but it operates in secret, guiding our lives through their ups and downs. Manned by unseen assistants who spin it about at crucial life junctures to summon the just-right deity to oversee and subtly influence that chapter of your life, god wheels have kept destiny running smoothly for all of millennia.

That is, right up until Felix's assistant went missing. This dire crime results in Felix being granted special permission to spin his own wheel and actually meet the pantheon in charge of his fate. This newfound freedom will either wreck his life and the greater cosmos or bring about pan-dimensional salvation.

Oh, and beware the Bird Queen. She's up to no good while also searching for the perfect small bite.
