A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO WRITING A CHAPTER: PART 2

Posted on January 3, 2014

So with chapter three, Gnarl and Lady Edith establish that even off campus there are rules and boundaries. I knew there was a tragedy they had endured, but had no idea that they would share it in this chapter. It's a poignant turn that reveals to Irving that their quest to rescue Roon's brother might prove to be harder than they had originally thought.

Last night my mind worked on the landscape of the world once they step off campus. It made no sense to have them walk a bit and arrive at the ravine. They needed a legitimate journey, one that would tax them emotionally and physically. I went to sleep knowing they needed to encounter a bog. When I woke up I had the name for the quagmire that would prove thoroughly sticky: Biblio Bog. I even knew its purpose and what made it slightly different from the ravine. I am excited to get to the chapter when they actually enter the swamp: "Getting Bogged Down."

This weekend, I am hoping more obstacles will present themselves. I know that Irving and Roon will soon be taking to the air. I wonder if there's something awaiting them in the clouds that might spell doom or at least a clever impediment.

I am so excited by the creative paths that are opening up for this saga. I am definitely thinking that I will need four books to do just to Irving's tale.
