RESEARCHING A CHAPTER

Posted on April 4, 2013

I thought it might be nice to share what I have to research when I write.

The most recent chapter I penned today had quite an eclectic selection of research questions. With the Web a click away, the research is quick and easy. Here's what I had to investigate for the newest chapter of Burnt:

How pole-vaulting works
– I specifically needed the physics behind it to land a joke and my hero

Spelling of tuckus
– Fun words for bottoms are always crowd pleasers. Spellcheck doesn't want to recognize it as a word. A quick search reveals it's slang and she stays in the picture, folks!

Bopping a predator in the nose
– I wanted to make sure it was just sharks that had this particular Achilles' heel.

Shepherd's crook, does it look like I imagine?
– Yes it does.
