A WEE GARGOYLE TALKS HIMSELF UP

Posted on June 17, 2020

Let's hear from our brave little gargoyle. And what you'll hear is just from his first adventure.

"I'm feeling a lot of pressure. At the end of the week, I have to take my First Flight, and I just know my wings are going to let me down. It's almost a certainty I'll splash down in the Isis River in front of the whole village instead of flying high.

Blord is on the warpath this week, too. He's super upset at what I did to his nose when I lost my cool and threw a mud pie at him. Good thing Ot always has my back. As the only troll in a school of gargoyles, Ot is remarkably brave and not afraid to speak up.

He's a lot like my sister Flenn. She's not afraid of anything and is super smart. Don't tell her I said that or I'll be subjected to an even longer volcano presentation.

My dad isn't a big fan. He's always lecturing me to toe the line. Since he's a member of the Council, my behavior is a reflection on him. That's a lot of pressure.

My grandfather is my rock. Sadly, he's also turning to stone, literally. When gargoyles get real old, we calcify and turn into stone sentinels. It's tradition to leave Cascade and cross back over to Earth and scale a church when a gargoyle gets that old. It's honorable to wind up guarding a church. And this week I found out my grandfather might not make it to see my big life-changing moment because he may have to cross over early.

Life's really unfair. But at least I can escape into the noble world of my hero, the Flying Mummy. He's one of the realm's magical guardians and his adventures in his books and comics make life somewhat bearable. Someday I hope to meet him."
