DIGGING ZOMBIES PART 9: MY INNER TEENAGER
Posted on May 4, 2014
Wrote a pivotal scene with Trina and Nathan that makes it clear to the reader that they have extreme faith in each other. To do it, I had to summon my inner teenager. I just dug down, rooting through the mental insecurities that have laid dormant since high school, and pulled out quite a few dialogue gems.
I'm really pleased with the humanity that both characters exhibit in this quiet but important scene. It's not remotely romantic, thank god, it doesn't pander, and it rings so true.
I am eager to see what readers think of it. Somehow, it's both brave and nerdy at the same time. I mean, Nathan evokes math as he tries to berate Trina into acting like what she is instead of wallowing in what she isn't.
Man, keeping an undead teenage girl focused on saving the world is hard.
